INTERIOR DEPARTMENT POSTS FEDERAL NOTICE OF COMPACT APPROVAL — IT’S OFFICIAL

(MASHPEE MA – February 3, 2014) – Cedric Cromwell, Chairman of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, announced that the Interior Department today made official the formal approval of the gaming compact between the Tribe and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

“It’s now official. Today is a day of great significance for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe,” said Tribal Chairman Cedric Cromwell. “The Tribal State Compact was officially placed in the Federal Register today and will now take effect as federal law. This is another important step towards the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe bringing Project First Light destination resort Casino to the Great City of Taunton, creating much needed jobs, and a tremendous economic uplift for the people of Southeastern Massachusetts, City of Taunton and the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.”

Chairman Cromwell also noted the significance of today’s development given all the other licensing activities underway in Massachusetts. “The Compact is effectively a license for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe to provide Class III gaming at the gaming site in Taunton, Massachusetts, after Land Into Trust is completed by the U.S. Department of Interior. If the Tribal State Compact is breached in region C by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission awarding a Commercial license to another destination resort Casino, the Tribe will pay zero revenue to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. If the Mass Gaming Commission does not award another Commercial Destination Resort Casino license in Region C, the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe will pay 17 percent gross gaming revenue to the Commonwealth.” Cromwell said.

The Tribe is still on an aggressive path in moving the proposed destination resort casino forward. Cromwell added “We look forward to putting shovels in the ground to commence construction and bringing a world class destination resort casino to Taunton, Massachusetts.”
